As a child I filled notebooks with images of the plant-animal-people hybrids that would run rampant through my imagination. For as long as I can remember my favorite thing to purchase at the store was a notebook. I loved the crisp blank pages, the neat corners that would soon be turned to tatters. Upon gazing at a blank substrate a yearning to transform, and manipulate it has been present for as long as I can remember.

Through my artwork I investigate social issues with the intent of creating new ways of thinking. I use masculine and feminine symbols to create a unified entity serving as a metaphor for an ideal society. When facing oppression it is easy to be complacent or look the other way. Through my work I strive to evoke the desire for change within the viewer. My work forces confrontation of serious social issues. I use humorous, whimsical elements to make the issues more approachable. My experience in male dominated fields of work and athleticism influence my work. I conduct research about feminism and social injustices, and use my subjective experiences to create social commentary.
